Scottie Scheffler made a few errors out there today, but in those conditions he still looked so comfortable while the rest of the field, apart from Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa, really struggled.

His mentality and mindset could be huge this weekend - he laughs off bad shots and never seems to get frustrated, staying cool, clam and collected.

He's not quite at Dustin Johnson levels of laid back - there's more life in an urgent note than DJ at times - but staying cool is definitely a strength, and a big reason why he's still the Masters favourite.

  3. Who's gone?published at 01:19 13 April

    01:19 13 April

The list of players missing the cut does read like a who's who of world golf.

And look at some of those scores.

A brutal day two at Augusta.

    +7 Clark, Thomas, Garcia, Rose

    +8 Hovland

    +9 Spieth, Harman, Burns

    +13 D Johnson

    Rahm +5 (76)

Jon Rahm has made the cut in each of his past 17 major tournament appearances - the longest current run among malegolfers.

The last time he failed to see the weekend was at the 2019 PGAChampionship and he's now made it eight times out of eight at the Masters.

He sounds determined to make the most of it.

The Tiger Woods psyche is remarkable.

To make the cut in those conditions, having not played or completed a tournament for over a year is ridiculous. It speaks to someone who is unique in the game.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy has also been conducting his post-round press duties: "Really tough day. Just hard to make a score and just sort of trying to make as many parsas possible. I felt like I did okay. I made that bogey on 14, and even just to par the last four holes and get in theclubhouse and have a tee time tomorrow, I'm sort of pretty happy with. Scoring was very difficult.

"I mean, most ofthe field couldn't really get anything going. It was just a matter of trying to hang in there as best you could."

On the length of time it took to complete his round: "It felt long, yeah. My golf swing felt horrific for the last six or seven holes, just from hitting around.Especially that 11th hole. On 11 it felt like it took an hour to play that hole.Yeah, it was stop and start, hard to get into a rhythm with the conditions and obviously how slow the play was as well."

On hopes for the weekend: "I won from 10 back in Dubai at the start of the year. But obviously the Dubai DesertClassic and the Masters are two very different golf tournaments. We'll see. Hopefully the conditions are a little better tomorrow. Yeah, I still think I can go out tomorrow and shoot alow one, get back into red numbers, and have half a chance going into Sunday."

  8. 'I like where I am' - Schefflerpublished at 01:11 13 April

Scottie Scheffler on Sky Sports talking about conditions today:

"It was extremely challenging and it was a long day, the round took a while and the wind was blowing extremely hard.

"This was by far the most wind I've played in around this golf course and I thought it was a good score to get in at even par.

And on his chances this weekend:

"I feel like my game is in a good spot, I like where I am on the leaderboard close to the lead.

"Going into tomorrow I think the wind is going to be up but not nearly as much as today. I'm sure we'll see a few more birdies tomorrow but I'll just stay in my own little world and try and execute."

  9. 'I'll need a very, very low weekend'published at 01:07 13 April

Reigning Masters champion Jon Rahm speaking to Sky Sports after shooting 76 to finish five under par: "It is a very difficult set-up. It would have been very difficult anyway without the win but that just adds a whole level to it. You have to play really good golf on get lucky with the gusts.

"It was a bad day for me not to have it. I was fighting my swing all day. But at the end of the day I have made the cut and have two rounds to make up 12 shots. I feel it has been done before - if the conditions aren't too easy tomorrow, maybe I can make a push for the win."

On his aims for the final two rounds: "Tomorrow it'll be to get as close to par as possible and see how the leaders react. It all depends on them. But it is going to take a lot from me. I need a very, very low weekend."

  10. Scheffler on familiar groundpublished at 01:06 13 April

    01:06 13 April

    Scheffler -6 (72)

Scottie Scheffler holds a share of the lead at the Masters.

It is his second 36-hole lead/co-lead at Augusta National. He also led by five strokes after the second round in 2022 and went on to win by three strokes in the end from Rory McIlroy.

Well, not the day Rory McIlroy would have wanted as although he makes the cut he's matched his second-worst score around Augusta with a 77.

It's the sixth time he's shot 77 in the Masters and an ugly sense of deja vu as he also shot 77 in the second round last year when he did miss the cut.

A full 10 shots off the lead there's surely no chance McIlroy can muster a comeback but he'll be trying everything to at least stick a low one in tomorrow and see where that takes him.

  12. Scheffler shares the leadpublished at 00:56 13 April

    00:56 13 April

    Scheffler -6, McIlroy +4, Schauffele E (F)

Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler match McIlroy's par and a long, long day of brutal golf in the wind is finally over.

McIlroy will be out early tomorrow, Schauffele is not quite in the fight yet but a fast start on moving day would get him involved, while Scheffler holds a share of the lead and remains the hot favourite to win a second Green Jacket.

That is gutsy from Rory McIlroy.

It has been a really trying day but that will cheer him up somewhat. It is highly, highly unlikely he will break his Masters duck this weekend but he will be here.

  14. Postpublished at 00:48 13 April

    00:48 13 April

    Scheffler -6, McIlroy +4, Schauffele E (17)

Rory McIlroy misses the green again and after playing a bump and run he leaves himself with a long 15-foot putt left for a par.

And he makes it to ensure he stays on four over and stays around for the weekend.

As it stands the 2021 champion Hideki Matsuyama is the last player inside the projected cut line.

The Japanese player looked to have missed out when he made a double at the 18th to finish at six over.

  16. Defending champion Rahm looks set to make the cutpublished at 00:42 13 April

    00:42 13 April

    Rahm +5 (76), Fitzpatrick E (73), Dunlap +7 (74)

Jon Rahm looks pumped and almost makes an outrageous birdie on the 18th from about 40 feet.

It shaves the right of cup and stays up but the Spaniard should be able to tidy that up. And does.

Matt Fitzpatrick's clips his pitch on 10 feet past or so but is unable to roll in for hi par. His round has petered out over the final few holes and he'll sign for a one-over 73.

  17. Postpublished at 00:36 13 April

We're in to genuine sunset lighting now at Augusta, with the wind just dropping it's a gorgeous setting.

What isn't gorgeous is Rory McIlroy's tee shot on 18 which he sprays wide right and into the depths of the trees. Trouble.

  18. Thomas implodes on final holespublished at 00:36 13 April

About an hour ago Justin Thomas looked on track to make the weekend as he ambled down the 15th sitting pretty at level par.

He's just walked off the 18th green looking shellshocked having played the final four holes in seven over.

An absolute nightmare for the two-time major champion.

    He's going home.

  19. Postpublished at 00:35 13 April

    00:35 13 April

    Rahm +5, Fitzpatrick -1, Dunlap +7 (17)

Jon Rahm zings his approach on to the top level of the 18th green. Work to do. Albeit if he bogeys this hole the cut could well move to six over anyway given the maths involved.

Matt Fitzpatrick sees his ball catch the bump on the edge of the green and run off to the left.

  20. Birdie for Xanderpublished at 00:28 13 April

    00:28 13 April

    Scheffler -6, McIlroy +4, Schauffele E (17)

Rory McIlroy strikes a tree down the right of the 17th fairway and the ball's coming gone bouncing backwards and leaving him a good 80 yards behind where Scottie Scheffler is down the fairway.

He manages to recover though to save par, which matches Scottie Scheffler but not Xander Schauffele who plays that hole magnificently to get a three.
