Is a C passing at U Miami? ›

Grades and Credit Hours. The same letter grades are used for graduate and undergraduate students, but with somewhat different meaning. Fair, but below that expected of graduate students (C- is the lowest passing grade.

Students who Fail a course(s) or receive an Incomplete (I) grade are not permitted to progress in their program or register for the next term until their Incomplete grade is posted as a letter grade in CaneLink or they have been approved to retake the course.

Requirements. Students must have undergraduate student status and a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.0 at the time of application.

Students have access to various resources to help them make progress, including Degree Progress Reports, Degree Planner, Academic Advisors, and the school/colleges' Deans' Offices. To receive a bachelor's degree from the University, students must earn a minimum of 120 credit hours.

This makes University of Miami Extremely Competitive for GPAs. (Most schools use a weighted GPA out of 4.0, though some report an unweighted GPA. With a GPA of 3.8, University of Miami requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average.

It's important not to panic, as there are usually options available to students who fail a class. In most cases, you can still graduate on time, but you may need to put in extra effort to make up for the failed class during your senior year or by taking summer school.

The University of Miami is a fairly selective school, with an acceptance rate of around 20-28%. However, keep in mind that your chances of admission depend on a variety of factors, and you shouldn't be deterred by statistics alone.

University of Miami is ranked #67 out of 439 National Universities.

Strong Academics: Miami is a selective university, so it's important to maintain a competitive GPA and take challenging courses like APs, IBs, or honors. They don't require standardized test scores, but if you have a high SAT or ACT score, it could give you an edge.

Does UM require a mid-year report from first-year applicants? No, we do not require a mid-year report in order to be admitted. However, your school counselor may submit the mid-year report and updated senior year grades on your behalf if you wish for this information to be added to your admission application file.

Good Academic Standing

In order to graduate, you also need a minimum GPA of at least 2.0; additional GPA requirements may vary by academic department and major.

Most colleges and universities generally consider a "D" (or a 60% to 69% score) as a passing grade. It's important to note that this minimum or lowest passing grade standard can significantly vary depending on the institution or major. For instance, some universities may require a "C" or better to pass.

Passing grades: The grades of "A" through "C," and "S," are passing grades.

MDC will award credit only for courses with passing grades (i.e., A, B, C, and other grades considered passing by the issuing institution such as S and P) applicable to the student's degree/certificates. MDC may award credit for courses with "D" grades if applicable towards the student's program of study.
