The Pokémon franchise has captivated gamers and anime lovers for more than two decades. Fans from around the globe return to the Pokémon world time and time again to catch up with Ash and his friends and collect their favorite powerful Pokémon in new and classic games.

While trainers pursue different Pokémon for various characteristics (type, evolutionary forms, stats), the cuteness factor should not be underestimated. Many trainers fill their teams with cute Pokémon simply because they’re adorable. If you’re searching for the cutest Pokémon to add to your team, keep reading for our top picks.

Five Cutest Starter Pokémon

Each game by the Pokémon Company allows trainers to choose a starter Pokémon when they begin the game. Usually, players choose from a list of three available Pokémon. For example, the original starters in the first Pokémon games were Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander.

The following is a short list of our favorite cute starter Pokémon (in no particular order):

1. Squirtle

Longtime trainers and Pokémon newbies alike cannot resist this adorable face. One of the original starters, Squirtle oozes cuteness at every turn, from its round turtle body and big eyes to its curled tail and familiar cry. It’s no surprise that this Pokémon starter remains a fan favorite decades after its debut.

2. Piplup

Piplup, a fourth-generation Water-type, is one of the cutest Pokémon starters, in large part because it resembles a penguin, one of the most adorable animals on Earth. Piplup’s tiny beak and soft blue colors bring children’s stuffed animals to mind, and the dark blue on its head, back, tail, and chest resembles a cape. It’s a little penguin in a cape. How cute is that?

3. Sobble

Another Water-type starter beloved by fans is Sobble, an adorably pathetic-looking Pokémon from the Galar region. This crying cutie worms its way into trainers’ hearts with its giant eyes, sad expression, and of course, its contagious waterworks. Quick, somebody give this little cutie a hug.

4. Fuecoco

The Pokémon Company’s ninth-generation games, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, introduce Fuecoco, a Fire-type starter with some unique and adorable features. While many Pokémon get their cute charm from large eyes and small facial features, Fuecoco breaks the mold with a giant smile and a long alligator nose. His red coloring and stem-like hair have inspired many fans to liken this cute Pokémon to a red chili pepper or an apple.

5. Sprigatito

Another starter Pokémon that debuted for the new games is the Grass-type cat Pokémon Sprigatito. Cute from the tips of the ears to the fluffy tail, Sprigatito took the Pokémon community by storm, inspiring a huge amount of fan art since its introduction. Fans adore its large pink eyes, tiny pink nose, and bright green leaf collar.

The 22 Cutest Pokémon of All Time

Of course, starters aren’t the only types of Pokémon you can collect. Here’s a comprehensive list of the cutest Pokémon of all time (listed in no particular order), from the beloved originals to exciting newcomers:

1. Vulpix

The original Pokémon lineup featured many adorable creatures, but Vulpix definitely lands near the top of the cuteness rankings. This Fire-type Pokémon boasts a cute fox-like body, fuzzy ears, fluffy hair, and six tails.

In case the original design wasn’t cute enough, the Pokémon franchise introduced an Alolan form in Pokémon Sun. Alolan Vulpix is an Ice-type with a fluffy, cloud-like design and a winter-themed color palette. It may boast icy abilities, but its blue eyes melt the heart.

2. Togepi

Speaking of heart-warming Pokémon, fans of the original anime series will remember Misty’s trusty Togepi Pokémon, a baby form that hasn’t yet emerged completely from its egg. This small creature features a relatively simple design that nonetheless inspires smiles and awes from fans, especially when they hear its squeaky voice.

3. Eevee

Eevee tops many lists of cute Pokémon, and it’s not difficult to see why. This first-generation beauty combines all the best characteristics of the cutest animals, including foxes, dogs, cats, and bunnies, into one fluffy package.

Undeniably adorable, Eevee takes on many forms once evolved, all of which are cute in their own right. Still, many trainers choose to maintain normal Eevee for that original cuteness.

4. Sylveon

The most adorable Eevee evolution is Sylveon, a Fairy-type with big blue eyes and a pastel color palette in white, pink, and blue. Sylveon’s long, bunny-like ears, bows, and ribbon-like appendages all work together to create a whimsical and adorable Pokémon.

5. Mew

One of the cutest creatures among Mythical Pokémon is Mew, a Psychic-type from the first generation. Mew resembles a cat with its pointed ears and long tail but has bunny-like feet. A light pink body and precious playful cat personality make this Pokémon absolutely precious, especially compared to other Pokémon of the Psychic type, which can be rather spooky.

6. Skitty

Skitty is a third-generation creature with soft pink, cream, and purple colors, tufts of fur at the tips of its ears, and a unique, thin tail with a bulge on the end. Many Pokémon trainers collect the kitten pokémon Skitty to enjoy its endearing appearance and spunky behavior, which includes chasing its own tail until it becomes dizzy.

7. Pikachu

Pikachu, an electric-type Pokémon, is arguably the most well-known creature from the franchise. From Ash’s adored sidekick in the OG anime to live-action Pikachu renditions, fans have loved this enchanting Pokémon for decades.

Its red cheeks, happy smile, chubby body, and tiny feet are all pretty cute, but there’s no denying the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you hear a Pikachu say “pika-pika.” Pikachu may be the only Pokémon even non-fans can name due to its iconic cuteness.

8. Emolga

Fifth-generation Pokémon Emolga features a charming look that resembles a flying squirrel. This white, yellow, and black Pokémon possesses precious rodent-like ears and a contagious smile.

Another Electric-type, it resembles Pikachu with a similar color palette and a long, spikey tail. Emolga’s voice also resembles that of Pikachu, with a soft, high-pitched tone.

9. Jigglypuff

No list of cute Pokémon is complete without the addition of Jigglypuff, one of the most adored creatures among the original Pokémon. Even its name is cute!

Jigglypuff is a round pink creature with big eyes and the cutest tuft of hair right between its pointed ears. The delightful design makes it an especially popular Pokémon for cute merchandise. You can find this precious virtuoso on phone cases, shirts, backpacks, and tons of other merch.

10. Rockruff

Based on man’s best friend, Rockruff is one of the cutest puppy Pokémon in the franchise. The Pokémon Company debuted this Rock-type creature in the seventh generation, and it became a fast favorite for its dog-inspired loyalty and, of course, those big blue puppy eyes.

Rockruff’s final evolution designs are more intimidating than cute, so avoid evolving these Pokémon if you want to maintain their cuteness.

11. Riolu

Not all cute dog-inspired Pokémon are quadrupedal like Rockruff. Riolu, a Fighting-type Pokémon that debuted in generation four, walks on its hind legs. Riolu may evolve into a fierce fighter, but that doesn’t mean he’s not cute with those puppy paws, pointy ears, and black appendages coming from his head that also look like puppy ears.

12. Joltik

Most people don’t consider arachnids cute, but if anyone can break a scary stereotype, it’s the Pokémon Company. Spider Pokémon Joltik boasts a delightful design with a fuzzy yellow body and cute cone-shaped feet. This tiny furball only stands 0.1 meters tall, making it one of the smallest Pokémon in the franchise.

13. Bidoof

A Normal-type modeled after real-life beavers, Bidoof was an easy choice to include on our cute list. This fourth-generation Pokémon features a chubby body style, fluffy cheeks, and signature beaver teeth. Watching them happily swim around is the most bewitching thing you’ll see in the New Pokémon Snap game on Nintendo Switch.

14. Munchlax

The Pokémon Company introduced Munchlax in Generation IV as the baby version of Snorlax. Trainers who reach high friendship with a Munchlax can change it into its evolved form. Munchlax brings the cuteness with a wide smile, fun coloring that sort of looks like a robber’s mask, and thick pointy ears sticking straight up out of its head.

Some lists of cute Pokémon don’t include big-footed Pokémon like Munchlax, but we can’t resist this adorable glutton.

15. Cubchoo

A Pokémon with a name as precious as the creature itself is Cubchoo, an Ice-type teddy bear-looking creature with a perpetually runny nose. Cubchoo features an endearing bear cub design with big, glossy eyes, round ears, and cute little paws.

There’s no need to worry about your Cubchoo’s constant sniffles. In fact, the lack of a runny nose means a Cubchoo is actually sick.

16. Spheal

What do you get when you cross a seal with a beach ball? A Spheal! This charming Ice/Water-type floated onto our list due to its chubby body and happy demeanor.

Spheal struggles fetchingly in water. Instead of swimming as you may expect, it floats around in circles with that contented look on its precious face.

17. Togedemaru

Another Pokémon with a winsomely round body is Togedemaru, also called the Roly-Poly Pokémon. Its oversized body features little feet, hands, ears, and nose for maximum cuteness. We don’t recommend giving this one a hug when it’s angry, though, or you may meet the pokey end of its fur spikes.

18. Mantyke

Many Pokémon fans find Mantyke undeniably cute, and it’s not difficult to see why. Based on a mantra ray, Mantyke features a rounded belly and oversized antennae almost as long as its body. Big dark eyes and a nearly constant smile cement this baby Pokémon’s place on our list of precious Pokémon.

19. Dratini

Two evolutions down from the mighty Dragonite, you’ll find this appealing creature. Dratini has been a fan favorite since the beginning for its ability to evolve into a very strong Pokémon, but it’s pretty adorable in its own right. Its soft blue serpentine body has no arms or legs, and it has a cute baby dragon face with big eyes, fin-like ears, and a little nub where its horn will grow in.

20. Shaymin

Shaymin is a Grass-type creature that looks like a terrier that ran through a garden and returned covered in foliage. Featuring a lovable dog body and face, Shaymin’s hedgehog-like back is covered in grassy fur with a flower and leaves on both sides of its head.

Shaymin expresses happiness by growing flowers on its grassy back. If that’s not adorbs, I don’t know what is.

21. Phanpy

If Dumbo taught us anything, it’s that baby elephants are stinkin’ cute, and this second-generation Pokémon is no exception. Phanpy’s large ears, elephant trunk, and pastel blue coloring combine to form a pretty delightful creature. This safari zone Pokémon also has red pads on its ears and trunk, which sort of look like stylish jewelry.

22. Litleo

We don’t have many Fire-types on our list, but the mohawk-sporting Litleo begs including. This sixth-generation lion cub has a fiery personality to match its combustion abilities, but the features that dropped it onto this list include its big, round ears and cute little red nose.
