Lady Viv is a 2003 Pacific Trawler 40 built in Bellingham, WA to the first owner’s specifications. We’re the second owners and are profoundly grateful for being her caretakers. Listed as Hull #57, she was the second-to-last hull built. Pacific Trawlers are known as highly suitable coastal cruisers for the Pacific Northwest. Many have voyaged to Alaska and back.

The semi-displacement hull and 220 hp Cummins 6BT5.9 diesel keep her cruising smoothly and easily at 8.2 knots hull speed, 10 knots cruising speed, and 11 knots top speed. A 400-gallon diesel tank provides fuel to the engine, genset, and forced-air heating system. Range on a full tank is approximately 1000 miles. Despite this she has only 1680 hours on her original engine and has not been put through “hard miles” during her lifetime.

The pilothouse layout provides excellent visibility fore, abeam, and aft, making it easier for a couple or singlehander to sail and dock the vessel. Bow and stern thrusters help ease into tight moorages without throttle heroics. A pair of Eartech “marriage saver” headsets make yelling while maneuvering a thing of the past.

Her 13’ beam and salon layout make for a spacious, relaxing environment for entertaining or cruising. Woodwork is a warm golden mahogany, with teak handrails and grip rails for moving about in a seaway. The full-size U-shaped galley, deep single-basin sink, and three-burner propane stove provide plenty of countertop for meals and preparation, and there is ample storage in the cabinets, side-by-side fridge-freezer, and tambour-door cupboards. Tall, or have tall friends? Headroom throughout is a spacious 6’ 6”. The settee converts into a double berth for when occasional visitors spend the night.

The head has a full-height shower with portlight ventilation to prevent moisture buildup. The co*ckpit also has a fresh-water washdown faucet for cleaning up after seaborne adventures. Saltwater washdown is also available in the co*ckpit, as is a saltwater washdown by the windlass for cleaning bottom mud from the anchor.

A master stateroom in the bow features a walk-around queen bed, cedar-lined hanging lockers to port and starboard, and drawers and dry storage beneath the bed itself.

The flybridge has duplicate helm and engine controls, a depth sounder repeater, and a second VHF mic for communication. Below decks, in addition to the fuel tank are two 75-gallon water tanks, a 40-gallon holding tank, an IsoTemp Spa 20 water heater, Northern Lights 5kW genset, and the house and start batteries. Best of all, belowdecks are clean, dry, and sound, with additional storage space for gear or spares.

The Zodiac Cadet 310 dinghy has a fiberglass hull with reinforced keel strip and PVC tubes. She is stored on the upper deck on deck chocks along with a Mercury 9.9 hp outboard.
